The environmental NGO Nature Trust expressed concern at off-roading events reported by its members at a number of localities in Gozo, including the cliffs of Mgarr ix-Xini.

It urged the authorities to seriously assess the proposed off-roading tracks at Ta' Qali or in an unused quarry at Mellieha so that enthusiasts can practise their sport there without causing environmental damage in the open countryside.

The NGO also called upon the authorities to beef up the administrative and law enforcement unit of the police and additionally create a green warden system as a priority.
