Concert violinist James Grech, founder and organiser of the Stradivari Season, died peacefully at Mater Hospital in Brisbane, Australia early yesterday morning.

Mr Grech was well known among Malta's classical music lovers. Apart from the concerts which he had performed himself as a soloist, the Stradivari Season he had set up in 2002 produced over 50 classical music concerts in different venues around Malta.

He was diagnosed as suffering from acute lymphoblastic lymphoma earlier this year. While undergoing intensive treatment in Australia, he plucked up enough courage and energy to produce and perform as a soloist in three highly acclaimed concerts in Brisbane with a symphonic orchestra last July.

Mr Grech was 28 and leaves his parents Doris and Victor, his sister Miriam and his twin brother Joseph to mourn him.
