About 800 kilos of pasta confiscated from on board a ship by the Customs Department were yesterday donated to the police.

The aim of the donation is to assist the police in providing food for illegal immigrants, the parliamentary secretary at the finance ministry, Tony Abela, said during the presentation at police headquarters, in Floriana yesterday.

After giving an overview of the successes achieved by the Customs Department last year, Dr Abela said that while the authorities were constantly on the look-out for smuggling, smugglers did their utmost to find innovative ways to beat the system.
