Contact Dance Company, a cutting edge contemporary dance group, have performed in the fourth Euro-Scene Festival in Leipzig, Germany, held between November 9-14.

Contact performed a triple bill on two nights to two full houses at the Lofft, a contemporary style theatre.

During its debut in Germany at the highly regarded festival, which hosted participants from Cyprus, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Germany, Contact performed its cutting edge work Corpus which, created in 2000, was received with both amazement and joy.

Tempest, expertly played by percussionist Renzo Spiteri, interpreted John Cage's Bacchanale composition, creating impressive images of temperament, colour and shadow to the bizarre and intricate score that left no muscle unexplored in any of the dancers' bodies.

The two works to the music of Bach was a simple tribute to the city where J.S. Bach worked, lived and is buried in a grand cathedral in the heart of Leipzig.

Rachel Axisa, Yasmine Nuvoli, Erika Bonnici, Fiona Barthet and Gillian Zammit's projected appearance defied the audience with their technically skilled contorting of bodies, intertwining, brave and eclectic-like shapes, their physical ability awarding contact and improvisation a new meaning to the prospects of new dance, complemented by Anton Borg Olivier's lighting design and Francesca Abela Tranter's direction.

Ms Abela Tranter, Contact artistic director, was interviewed by local German newspapers who were interested to learn more about the dance scene in Malta, and fascinated by the overwhelming amount of dance existing on such a small island and its present situation.

Contact dance company will be premiering three new works at the MITP, St Christopher Street, Valletta on February 25, 26 and 27.
