A cook on a trawler was yesterday given a one-year jail term suspended for a year for seriously injuring the captain with a cutting instrument.

Khaled M El-Fahri, 36, of Libya, pleaded guilty to seriously injuring the captain of the mv Al Najma Al Baidha, Salem Saed, and to the possession of the cutting instrument without a licence in Kalkara on Thursday at about 3 a.m.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti handed down judgment after Saed, who appeared in court with bandages round both wrists and an elbow, took the witness stand and forgave El-Fahri.
