The Department of Arts and Languages in Education of the University of Malta, through the International Office, is providing advanced training of trainers courses in teaching English as a foreign language to senior members of staff from two Chinese institutes of higher education.

Last year, 15 lecturers from the Shanghai Teacher Training Institute of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission received intensive training over four months at the University of Malta.

Also as from last year, the department has been engaged in training senior lecturers from the Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

The first group completed their four-month intensive course earlier on this year. The second group arrived in Malta last month.

The coordinators of these courses are Charles Mifsud and Doreen Spiteri.

The intensive training courses at the University of Malta were selected after the Chinese evaluation teams considered other proposals from universities in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.
