The Malta Basketball Association(MBA) has sealed an agreement with Italian Santino Coppa to become the head coach of the women's national team, a statement by local basketball body said.

Professor Coppa, together with coach Carlo Farrugia, will be responsible of the preparation of the team for the Games of the Small States of Europe to be held in Malta next June.

Coppa is Priolo's head coach. Twice voted best coach in the Italian basketball female sector, Coppa has won two Serie A championships and one European Cup with Priolo.

Coppa's experience and know-how should stand the Maltese team in good stead.

Coppola is currently in Malta, supervising the first in a series of training camps. The Italian mentor would be conducting no less than 10 sessions.

Farrugia will continue to prepare the team in his absence. Coppa is also expected to oversee the women's team training throughout the last seven weeks prior to the Games.
