Local band Corkskrew won the Best Band award at the 2005 Bay Music Awards, held at the Eden Arena last week.

The award comes on the eve of the band's 10th anniversary.

Corkskrew opened this year's BMAs with a performance of their hit single Cool Sunday taken from their latest CD album No Ordinary Maybe. Cool Sunday has been the only local track to reach the number one position on 89.7 Bay's Top 40 in the last 18 months.

"We are very honoured to have won this award. We thank 89.7 Bay for organising this event, as well as its listeners and all our fans who sent their votes," said Diane Micallef, Corkskrew's frontwoman.

Corkskrew will be performing live for the last time this year on December 23 at Rookies Sports Bar in Bugibba.

Meanwhile, the band has been featured in the prestigious podcast compilation of tracks available on the worldwide online music store - iTunes. The chosen track is Never taken from Corkskrew's first CD Micromania. The compilation is called Podcast Vol. 24 and is available on www.nextbighit.com.
