Project Green issues call for tender to develop Cospicua's long-delayed garden

Call for tender issued for €11m project that will shift cars underground

Project Green has issued a call for tender for the transformation of the car park near the American University of Malta in Cospicua into a green recreational space. Works will be taken in hand early next year.

The government agency said the €11m project will transform the current open-air car park into a vibrant public green space, featuring soft landscaping, a loggia, a children’s playground, and outdoor fitness equipment.

The design places a strong emphasis on the use of environmentally friendly methods and materials, ensuring that regeneration enhances both community well-being and environmental sustainability.

It will also include a three-level underground car park.

The project was among a handful of flagship proposals presented by the government during its 2022 re-election campaign. Details were subsequently announced in August 2023, with works due to begin that year.

But the project was beset by delays and the area remains a car park to this day.

Project Green CEO, Joseph Cuschieri said that further to this, Project Green is implementing 17 projects across Malta and Gozo covering 130,000 sqm.
