Cospicua garden to be named after Caritas founder Mgr Victor Grech

Second public garden to be named after Caritas founder Mgr Victor Grech

Former Caritas founder Mgr Victor Grech will be getting another garden named after him, this time in his birthplace of Cospicua.

On Friday, a notice in the Government Gazette reported that a garden that will be established on Triq Mons Panzavecchia and Triq tal-Karmnu will be named Ġnien Mons Victor Grech.

The much-loved pioneering anti-drug campaigner, who died last year, already has a garden named after him in Swieqi. Mgr Grech lived for many years in Tal-Ibraġ.

That garden, which used to be known as Swieqi Garden, was renamed in April 2025 in honour of Mgr Grech’s national legacy and lifelong dedication to social work.

Born in Cospicua in 1929, and ordained in 1956, Mgr Grech dedicated his life to those struggling with substance abuse, alcoholism, and poverty. He died on February 5, 2025, at the age of 95.
