When the meter reader came to read the utilities' meters in Balzan earlier this week, he did not hand out the usual print-out from his portable contraption showing the actual water and electricity readings and consumption, because, according to him, "they have not provided us with batteries for the printer"!

We all know that Enemalta Corporation is in dire financial straits but surely the purchase of a few euros worth of batteries is an immediate necessity in order to continue providing us with printed details of our households' water and electricity consumption until smart meters are installed.
