Pieter Omtzigt (Netherlands, EPP/CD) has been appointed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to prepare a report on the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and the rule of law in Malta.
“It’s very important that not only the people who are guilty of murdering Daphne Caruana Galizia, but also those who commissioned the murder, are punished appropriately,” Mr Omtzigt said.
#DaphneCaruanaGalizia’s sons asked for our support and our commitment to use all instruments at our disposal to help them. If we want to restore the confidence of new generations in democratic institutions, we owe them this commitment.” - @PACE_News President @michelenicolet https://t.co/JihqOCcrjT

Earlier in the day PACE President Michele Nicoletti, in an opening address to the Assembly’s spring plenary session in Strasbourg, referred to the case.
She referred to the visit to the assembly by the Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sons to demand truth and justice for their mother.
“They knew that we do not have superpowers to solve the mystery of their mother's death… Nevertheless, they asked for our support; for our solidarity with the victims – not with the perpetrators – and for our commitment to use all instruments at our disposal to help them.”
“I believe that if we want to restore the confidence of new generations in democratic institutions, we owe them this commitment,” the president concluded.
