Qala local council said it was unanimous in its "absolute opposition" to recently announced plans for the building of a tourist village and yacht marina at Qala Creek.

The council said the project as proposed was excessive, disproportionate and would give rise to speculation to the detriment of the environment and picturesque Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay.

The council said any development proposed for the old quarry at Hondoq should conform to the Gozo local plan.
