Labour councillors in Qrendi, who form the majority of councillors, yesterday said that they would be voting against a motion proposed by the two PN councillors recommending that residents in the locality vote for EU membership.

A similar motion in favour of membership was approved in Mgarr, with four votes in favour, and the Labour councillor excused due to ill health, and in Msida with four votes in favour. The Labour councillors in Msida left before the vote was taken.

A motion in Mqabba in favour of membership was approved with three votes in favour and two Labour councillors voting against.

Swieqi council also approved a motion in favour of membership with six PN votes in favour and the Labour councillor absent.
