The General Workers' Union has threatened to order industrial action at Maltapost if the company "continues to ignore" the union over the issue of counter workers at post office branches.

Union section secretary Josephine Attard Sultana said action would include workers not doing extra work which they have been doing for some time.

The union is claiming that since postal operations moved to hubs, the counter workers are being left without the necessary back-up and are therefore under continuous stress. It said the extra work had been imposed on the workers without any consultation with the union.
