A married couple yesterday filed a writ of summons asking the court to declare their debtor to be a fraudulent bankrupt.
Francis and Victoria Bonello filed their writ against Ronald Azzopardi and his wife Mariella.
The Bonellos claimed they had loaned Mr Azzopardi Lm285,000 and that the loan had been confirmed in writing last year.
Although they had repeatedly called upon Mr Azzopardi to refund this sum he had failed to do so and the Bonellos added that it resulted that Mr Azzopardi also owed money to other persons. They added that Mr Azzopardi had transferred the money loaned to him to different companies he held and was using these different companies and the principle of limited liability to hide his assets and to evade his creditors.
The Bonellos further claimed that Mr Azzopardi was unable to repay his loans and they called upon the court to declare that Mr Azzopardi was bankrupt and that this bankruptcy was fraudulent.
Lawyer John Refalo signed the writ.
