A married couple have sued the Director General (Health Care Services) for damages after they claimed that the wife contracted the MRSA while undergoing treatment at St Luke's Hospital two years ago.
Abdelkrim and Carmela Bouharis told the court that Ms Bouharis had undergone treatment at St Luke's Hospital in September 2007. While there she had contracted MRSA.
She claimed that this was due to negligence on the part of the hospital. As a result of this infection, the couple claimed that Ms Bouharis had suffered a permanent disability.
Mr and Mrs Bouharis asked the First Hall of the Civil Court to order the director general to make good the damages they had sustained.
Lawyers Jose Herrera and David Camilleri acted for the couple.
