A man was yesterday acquitted of seriously injuring his girlfriend’s former boyfriend because the evidence produced did not allow the magistrate to piece together the events.

Dennis Agius, 20, of San Ġwann was accused of committing the crime in an argument in Paceville last July.

He was alleged to have attacked Jeffery Farrugia, also known as Il-Kampjun, hitting him in the face with a baton after Mr Farrugia blocked the road with his car as Mr Agius was driving home. The incident took place in front of the Vivaldi Hotel.

The court said that, based on the witnesses produced and the conflicting evidence, the court was not in a position to determine exactly what had taken place or how the injuries were inflicted.

Police Inspector Nikolai Sant prosecuted. Lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for Mr Agius.
