A burglar who made off with more than €13,000 worth of jewellery and electronic items from a house in Pieta' five years ago was yesterday jailed for three years and three months.

Alexander Gialanze Whiteford, 25, from Sta Venera stole €9,320 worth of jewellery and a further €3,909 worth of electronic items, such as a TV set, a video camera and an MP3 player, in October 2005. The police managed to lift a number of hand and finger prints from the scene of the crime which led to Mr Gialanze Whiteford, who was already on their records.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano took into consideration that the accused had already been jailed once before for a similar crime and had not learnt his lesson.
