The attorney general and the police commissioner yesterday called on the Magistrates' Court to deny Anthony Grech Sant bail saying they did not think circumstances had changed since the first request was denied on Monday.
Grech Sant, 55, is one of the four men arraigned on Monday and charged with trading in influence and aiding and abetting in the bribery of two judges.
The others are Joseph Zammit, 57, Mario Camilleri, 40, and his son Pierre, 20. Their case has been assigned to Magistrate Noel Cuschieri and has been scheduled for next week.
The prosecutors yesterday emphasised that Grech Sant could not be trusted not to tamper with evidence since he did not find it difficult to act as the link between a drug trafficker and the chief justice.
Dr Anthony Borg Barthet and Dr Stephen Tonna Lowell, who signed the reply, said Grech Sant would be given any medical assistance he required in prison and added it did not seem his medical condition could lead to some kind of crisis.
