FOI President Anton Borg and director general Edwin Calleja paid a courtesy visit to US Ambassador Anthony Gioia last Thursday week. During the meeting, the FOI officials discussed Malta's accession into the EU and how this would enable Malta-based operators to gain free access not solely into the markets of EU member states, but also into markets of several non-EU countries, which are party to bilateral trade agreements with the EU.

The meeting also focused on possibilities of how the two sides could promote Malta as a location for American investment and the assistance the Embassy and the Federation could provide to convince US investors on the potential offered by the country. Mr Borg invited the Ambassador to address a session of the Council of the Federation in the coming weeks.
