CrediaBank profits and income rise as it readies itself for Malta operation

The bank presented its financial results for the first half of 2025 on Monday

Greek bank CrediaBank, which recently signed a deal to take over from HSBC Malta, said its income, pre-tax profits and deposits were all up during the first half of the year, making it well-placed to focus on Malta as “a priority new market”.

The bank said this in a statement on Monday presenting its financial results for the first six months of 2025.

It reported a sharp rise in its recurrent income, which grew to €38.9 million during the first half of 2025, a 124% increase over the previous year.

Likewise, its operating income doubled to reach €111.1 million, a sharp rise from the €52.4 million recorded during the same period last year.

The bank said its profitability was impacted by a recently completed merger between two Greek banks, Attica Bank and Pancreta Bank, from which the newly rebranded CrediaBank emerged.

Nevertheless, the bank recorded a pre-tax profit of €27.6 million, compared to €1.6 million in early 2024.

It also said it captured some 11% of new loans in the Greek market, growing its loan portfolio, with its net credit expansion hitting €542 million.

The bank’s CEO, Eleni Vrettou, described 2025 as “a pivotal year, a year of transformation, a year of new beginnings,” saying that the financial results reflect its “healthy growth” and sound strategy.

“With the operational merger in Greece now complete, we are laying the groundwork for the full implementation of our business plan, driving significant upgrades to the customer experience across all channels and activities,” Vrettou said.

The bank said the results strengthen its position as Greece’s fifth-largest bank and drive “its expansion into international markets”.
