The Armed Forces of Malta yesterday again helped out in a rescue operation, the second time in three days, after another cargo ship found itself in difficulties in rough seas.

The AFM search and rescue coordination centre received a distress call yesterday at 8 a.m. that a ship was sinking about 250 nautical miles east of Malta.

The AFM centre informed all ships in the area and requested assistance.

The Malaysian registered ship Bunga Pelangi went to the area and recovered the crew of the stricken cargo ship Karen Cat registered in Denmark.

The rescued crew, two Danes, one Ukranian and four Filipinos were all in good health and are being conveyed to Port Said.

No other crew members were reported to have been on board. The ship was still sinking yesterday afternoon.

The AFM said the nature of the cargo was unknown.

On Sunday night, the AFM was involved in the unsuccessful search for the crew of the 75-metre ship Tor 1 which went down in force 8 winds.
