The cruise passenger terminal at the Valletta Waterfront will start operating next March and the first retail outlets are expected to open for business during the first week of December.
With the opening of the terminal, the passenger terminal on the Marsa side will be used by ferries, although it could still be used for cruise liner operation if the need arises, Minister for Urban Development and Roads Jesmond Mugliett said when he visited the site. Mr Mugliett expects that over the coming months the government will multiply its efforts to complement the works being undertaken by Viset plc. These works are specifically aimed at increasing accessibility to the waterfront.
One of the projects the government was proposing for co-financing by the EU is the reconstruction of the road linking Spencer Hill to the Valletta Waterfront. Another project will introduce vertical access systems linking the waterfront to the city.
Work on the complex started last June. On completion of the Forni Complex, Viset will start work on access to the lagoon on the western side of the project.
This development will open the lagoon to the sea allowing water taxis to operate to the Valletta Waterfront.
