The Xarolla mill at Zurrieq was open to the public just days ago for European Heritage Days 2004. Tours on site were organised by the Cultural Heritage Superintendency together with the Zurrieq council. Big thanks go to the Xarolla windmill curator, George Sammut, and archaeologist Joanne Mallia from Temas and Zurrieq local councillor Mario Sammut, who fully explained the details about these sites.
Two leaflets on the Xarolla windmill, incorporating the history of the mill and the catacombs in the area, have been issued to mark the occasion. The musico-literary evening that was held on the Sunday with the participation of the Zurrieq choir Cantate Domino and the reading of Gmajru u l-Karozzin, written by P.P. Saydon and read by Josephine Zammit, Mark Tonna and George Sammut, were wonderful.
This is what I call a real cultural example to other local councils.
