Eurocypria Airlines, a subsidiary of Cyprus Airlines, has engaged Lufthansa Technik Malta to carry out C-checks on its fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The first two aircraft are already in Malta.
A C-check is a comprehensive maintenance programme where the aircraft is checked for structural damages and undergoes corrosion tests. The programme requires 2,000 man-hours and takes from five to six days.
Lufthansa Technik CEO Louis Giordimaina said at a press conference yesterday that since Lufthansa Technik Malta started operating in January 2003, it had performed 115 C-checks for clients including Lufthansa, Air Malta, Spanair, Blue Wings (Germany) and Windjet (Italy).
The company has 110 employees, nearly all of them Maltese.
Mr Giordimaina said the contract was significant as it meant the company was now offering advanced services for the complete range of modern Boeing and Airbus short- and medium-range airplanes.
Eurocypria technical director George Poumos said Lufthansa Technik Malta had been chosen due to its strategic position in the Mediterranean and its proven track record for top quality maintenance.
One of its Boeing 737s has already undergone maintenance. Another aircraft, which landed and was towed into the hangar during the press conference, will undergo a C-check in the coming days.
