The second DA Expo, the three-day business, technology and creativity event, has been brought forward to November 4 to 6 and will be held at the InterContinental Hotel, St Julians.

Billed as the ideal event for industry networking, the DA Expo will host several conferences, workshops and seminars, and showcase the latest technology available on the market. Admission is free.

The DA Expo Conference has this year been formulated around three key streams of knowledge: business development, technological advancements and creativity and innovation.

Bigger Picture is to present three specialists: director of photography David Serge, set editor and data management technician Daniel Lapira, and sound recordist and designer Aleksandar Bundalo. There will be a technical "show and tell" of image acquisition using the Red One camera and tapeless workflow, and an informative step-by- step camera set-up to digital image analysis and sound acquisition event.

At the Digital Switchover event, the Malta Communications Authority will run through the impact of the migration to digital in broadcasting. The transformation is bringing about a revolution in the sector, opening different platforms to content and increasing the potential of current broadcasting.

An event showcasing the new Microsoft Expression application will demonstrate how creating compliant, standards-based websites is faster and easier than ever before.

Apple store I-Centre is sponsoring this year's Mac Lab training zone. Last year's hugely successful event attracted over 30 speakers, and more are lined up for this year. The schedule of workshops will soon be uploaded at www.daexpo.eu.

Two certified master classes - one for graphic designers and one for 3D artists - are going to be held for the first time running over three days. The classes are also being promoted in international magazines Computer Arts and 3D World. Air Malta is also offering discounts to foreign visitors flying in for the event.

Digital artists will again be offered the opportunity to display some of their work at the Digital Artists' Gallery Zone, which is split into two: the Designers' Zone sponsored by Big Exhibits and the Photographers' Zone sponsored by Impressions. There are no fees and sponsors will print all selected digital arts for free.

Meanwhile, confirmed participants at the Expo include Megabyte, the communications and education ministries, Mcast institutes, the Malta Institute of Professional Photographers, the Chamber of Architects, Wacom, Maxon Cinema, Adobe, Mampalao Trading, Nexos Lighting, Newtech, Ars Animacion, TV Paint, HSBC, 897 Bay, Area 1, Mailbox, Effective Marketing and Master Group.

The ceremony to present the Digital Arts Awards, which have now been closed for submissions, will be held a day after the event during a gala dinner at the Palm Suite at the InterContinental Hotel. Over 85 submissions have been entered in eight categories.
