Equalities Minister Helena Dalli yesterday met carers working at Mount Carmel who expressed appreciation of the government’s efforts to crack down on precarious working conditions.

In a statement, the ministry said the purpose of the meeting was for the government to continue to understand how workers were affected by its policies to eliminate precarious work.

Dr Dalli said that while the majority of employers were honest and obeyed the law, a small minority continued to abuse it.

The statement said that a number of carers employed by a private company have seen their income improve, as it was now pegged to the same scale as carers employed by the government.
