The Malta Dance Council has presented Lm2,000 raised from fund-raising and sponsorships to Razzett tal-Hbiberija to assist in the construction of a new multi-sensory room.

The money was raised during a dance marathon held last April in Valletta with the theme Zfin fit-toroq Maltin (Dancing in the streets of Malta).

Nadya Borg Busuttil representing Vodafone, one of the sponsors, presented the cheque to Razzett president Janatha Stubbs.

The members of the dance council then toured the Razzett facilities and got a glimpse of the programmes offered for people with disabilities.

They also discussed other possible events aimed at raising money for the charity.

Ms Stubbs, and Razzett general manager Nathan Farrugia explained the work and aims of the charity.

The new multi-sensory room will offer a variety of treatments to people with disabilities, and will continue to extend the already numerous facilities that Razzett offers free of charge.

The Razzett is currently involved in the promotion of disability issues and preparation of activities for next year, which has been designated the European Year of Persons with Disability.

Razzett tal-Hbiberija recently organised a seminar focusing on the abilities of persons with disability.

Heads of schools and facilitators, non-governmental organisations and voluntary organisations were invited to attend this seminar.

In his opening speech, Mr Farrugia spoke about the centre's role in educating the public on issues concerning persons with disability.

Joe Camilleri, chairman of the National Commission Persons with Disability and Brian Gault, a person with disabilities, were among the speakers.
