In the US, the focus will be on inflationary data to be issued mid-week, with updates for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) both core (excluding food and energy) and headline. Some further housing data will also be spread across the week with the housing starts and permits on Wednesday.
In mainland Europe, most of the attention will be centered on the Purchasing Managers Indices (PMI). A resulting figure closer to the 50 level mark may signal more woes for the European monetary union. Updates on the eurozone current accounts will be published on Wednesday, while industrial new orders for December are also scheduled for Friday.
The economic schedule for the UK economy will kick off with the Bank of England minutes for the last Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held on February 6. Market participants are expecting a consensus where all members voted for a rate cut. Members of the MPC are expected to highlight the deterioration of expected growth rates but emphasise once again the upside risks to inflation. Retail sales for the month of January will close off the week on Friday.
