The F.O.I., through the local office of the Malta Business Bureau, is organising, with the kind support of the British High Commission in Malta, an information seminar entitled 'Ensuring Compliance with Your Data Protection Obligations - Tips, Traps and Techniques for Business'.
The seminar will be held on Thursday, February 19, at 9 a.m. at the Exchange Buildings, Republic Street, Valletta.
The aim of this seminar is to familiarise business operators with their main responsibilities in terms of the Data Protection Act and with the enforcement powers of the Commission on Data Protection.
The seminar starts with a presentation by Susannah Haan from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), who will provide information on the role of the Information Commissioner in the UK, on recent UK developments in the data protection field, and on the CBI's views of the relevant EU legislation.
Paul Mifsud Cremona, Commissioner for Data Protection, will deliver the second presentation. He will focus on the role of the Commission on Data Protection and will explain its investigative and enforcement powers.
The session ends with a presentation by Dr Michael Frendo, partner of Gatt Frendo Tufigno Advocates, on the main responsibilities and duties of data handlers under the Maltese Data Protection Act. There will also be time for discussion.
Readers are actively encouraged to attend this seminar since the theme is of relevance and importance to all business sectors. The seminar should also be of interest to legal practitioners, business consultants, and law and IT students.
Participation will be free of charge to members, but non-members and dtudents will be charged Lm10 and Lm5, respectively, for the material distributed.
Registration has to be submitted to the local office of the Malta Business Bureau by e-mail at info@mbb.org.mt or by fax to 2124-5223 by Friday, February 13.
