MEP David Casa has been elected EPP leader for the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.
The role involves leading a team of advisors and organising the EPP's work in the committee. Dr Casa will act as the chief negotiator for the EPP on employment and social affairs and has absolute discretion over the appointment of MEPs as rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs.
Elections for the posts of EPP coordinators and vice-coordinators took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg yesterday evening.
When the vote results became known, Mr Casa thanked his opponent, German senior MEP Thomas Mann, for a fair campaign. Mr Casa won the vote with 19 votes in favour of his candidacy against the eight received by his opponent.
He said that when one considered the worrying unemployment levels that continued to plague many European countries and the social consequences of the crisis the work of this committee was all the more urgent.
