A magistrate this morning accepted a request for David Gatt's bail conditions to be amended for him to be allowed to speak to lawyer Chris Cardona.

Dr Gatt, a former police inspector, stands charged with complicity in four major hold-ups.

His lawyers, Edward Gatt and Joe Giglio, filed an application for the bail conditions to be changed so that Dr Gatt could be allowed to speak to Dr Cardona, with whom he had worked and shared an office for four years.

They argued that although Dr Cardona was a witness to the prosecution, he was also a witness to the defence.

Because of the bail condition that he could not speak to Dr Cardona, Dr Gatt had to leave the office and there were many cases on which he and Dr Cardona had been working together.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona acceded to the request.
