A day centre for the elderly in Mosta, a locality that is home to around 2,400 old people, has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami.
In the last four years, six such day centres have opened around the island and more than 1,100 elderly persons are being catered for in the 12 government day centres in Malta and Gozo.
Antoine Bonnici, parliamentary secretary in the Social Policy Ministry, said the participation of Mosta council in the social dimension of the elderly should serve as an example to other councils.
Today, more councils were realising the importance of these day centres, he said.
