Malta has won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the second time.

Destiny Chuckunyere beat off Mika of Armenia to win the contest for Malta for the second time in three editions this evening.

She represented Malta with the catchy song Not My Soul, whose lyrics she herself wrote. The young singer, who was alone on the stage, impressed with her strong voice.

Destiny, 12, has said in various interviews that she is inspired by queen of soul Aretha Franklin. She also hopes to represent Malta one day in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The show was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, even though Italy won the contest last year.

Seventeen countries took part in this evening's show. Malta won 185 points to Armenia's 176.

Armenia and Malta had been exchanging top place as the voting unfolded. Crucially, Armenia awarded 12 points to Malta, but Malta awarded seven points to Amenia. 

Malta's 12 points went to Italy, which however ended second from the bottom.

Malta's participation in the Junior Eurovision is handled by PBS. CEO Anton Attard was the main consultant for the Bulgarian national television.
