Greece and Malta both shared a common understanding for peace in the Mediterranean region, President Guido de Marco told the Economic Forum at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The President said state visits did not just involve the interplay of political figures but also of the social partners, which were important elements in a country.
He said both sides could exchange views and shape new strategies to enhance trade and commerce between the two countries.
Referring to his meetings with the Greek president and prime minister, Prof. de Marco said: "In view of today's international scenario, we have to realise that Greece and Malta share a common understanding for peace in the Mediterranean region."
On Thursday evening, the President and Mrs de Marco hosted the Maltese community in Greece before attending a reception in honour of the President of Greece, Costantinos Stephanopoulos.
The President also called on Mr Stephanopoulos at the Presidential Palace in Athens before making a private visit to the Greek islands.
He is expected to return on Monday.
