Two lifeless bodies were found at sea on Thursday, the first in the morning off Marsalforn, the second in the afternoon at Hurds Bank.
The police said a body, believed to be a woman, was found in the sea off Marsalforn at 11.15am and the corpse was brought to shore by the armed forces.
The second body was seen around 15 nautical miles off the coast in Hurds Bank. It was also brought in by the AFM.
Both were in an advanced stage of decomposition and could not be immediately identified and autopsies are being held.
Magistrate Brigitte Sultana is holding an inquiry on the first case, magistrate Ian Farrugia on the second.
The police are investigating.
