The University Students' Council (KSU) recently set up a health committee to stimulate and promote academic debate on various issues related to young people's health.

Subjects include health education and communication of health issues to young people, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, fitness and nutrition, tobacco, alcohol and illegal drug abuse.

The committee seeks to implement at both University and national level the EU Youth Health initiative, which aims to involve young people in health promotion and policy-making and engage them as active partners in determining their own health and well-being. The initiative was launched last July by EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou.

The committee is chaired by final year law student Anthia Zammit and includes University students from different academic disciplines and a Junior College student.

It will also serve as a link between the KSU and the government's Health Department.
