It has been a long, disappointing weekend. Very, very disgusting and nauseating. At least on Thursday and Friday (July 22 and 23) along that small stretch of concrete quay at the popular and lovely Ghadira Bay, the waters were malodorous and repelling. They were profusely soiled by scum which flowed out of one or more of the buildings just across the road. Large floating patches and smudges of a white effluent were scattered over a very, very large area. The water nearest the concrete shore was yellowish while a pungent, stinking smell of drainage pervaded the air.
This is the first time this summer that I have had this unfortunate and very bitter experience. I do hope that those who are responsible for this outrage either stop dirtying the bay or are stopped by the authorities from further polluting this highly popular bay.
Another sacrilegious blow mercilessly inflicted on Ghadira Bay consists of the wanton removal of a significant number of parking spaces near this same concrete beach. This was achieved by unnecessarily and exaggeratedly widening part of the pavement. I have found no logical or sane reason for this flagrant abuse of power and scandalous waste of public money.
I do hope that a representative (of, perhaps, the Mellieha local council, the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Information, etc) replies in connection with the issue of the sickening pollution of the waters at Ghadira Bay after carrying out the necessary investigations. I also do hope that the same official or someone from the Roads Department refutes my contention in connection with the widening of part of the sidewalk.
