Demonstrators to demand three things from Malta to fix its Gaza inaction

Tuesday evening march endorsed by five NGOs

Five NGOs will be joining the Embassy of Palestine in Malta to demand “meaningful action” from Malta to stop Israel’s starvation of Gaza, in a march to be held on Tuesday evening in Valletta.

Demonstrators have been asked to bring empty pots to the demonstration that will begin at 6.30pm outside Triton Fountain. The pots will serve as a symbol of the ongoing famine of Gaza.

Moviment Graffitti, Ġustizzja għall-Palestina, The Lebanese Advocates, The Watermelon Warriors and Youth for Palestine are all taking part in the march.

The organisations say Western governments, including Malta, are turning a blind eye to the wilful starvation of children, women and men in Gaza.

“After one year and 10 months of genocidal mass murder of civilians - including the deliberate targeting of journalists, healthcare professionals, aid workers, and aid seekers - Israel is now intensifying its genocide through mass starvation,” they said in a statement announcing the Tuesday march.

“Regrettably, the Maltese Government is also failing abysmally to take the actions within its power to oppose this genocide.

“In contrast with other European countries such as Ireland and Spain, it has consistently failed to condemn Israel’s genocide on the international stage, has reneged twice on its promise to recognise the State of Palestine, and continues to allow ships flying the Maltese flag to transport weapons and military material to Israel,” they noted.

Demonstrators want three things from Malta:

  1. A clear condemnation of Israel and a call for its Association Agreement with the EU to be cancelled;
  2. Prohibit Malta-flagged ships from transporting weapons or military material to Israel and block any ships carrying such material from entering Malta or being serviced by Malta-flagged ships;
  3. Malta to immediately recognise the State of Palestine.
