Depiro girls consolidate second place in standings
Medsea see off Stunners 87-45
Depiro McDonald's kept in touch with leaders Medsea thanks to their victory over Ergon Projects Luxol who came down to earth with a bang following their victory in the MBA Shield earlier in the week.
Depiro took advantage of Luxol's slow start to complete a double of wins over the same opponents.
Luxol looked stunned as Depiro scored the first 16 points of the game. After notching their first basket, Luxol started to get into the groove but Depiro never relented and changed ends 38-25 in front.
Any hopes Luxol had of reducing the deficit further were dashed in the third quarter when Depiro hit a fine patch to extend their lead to 53-35.
Luxol did well to narrow the gap to five points, 64-59, as the last ten minutes got underway but, again, Depiro surpassed a difficult moment to finish 72-62 winners.
Medsea, meanwhile, were never troubled by Stunners as the champs raced into a 25-12 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Leading 45-22 at half-time, Medsea looked happy to preserve their advantage until the final whistle, winning 87-45.
St James Hospital stayed fourth after beating Athleta 47-38. They led from the start and headed for half-time with a nine-point lead, 24-15.
Athleta made a reaction after the interval but St James were back on top as the last 10 minutes got underway to chalk up a useful victory.
