The Depiro U-16 girls team had a great start to 2009 as they travelled to Sicily to participate in a triangular tournament hosted by Eirene Ragusa.

The Maltese team was led by Roderick Vella and Josette Mifsud.

The tournament's opening saw Depiro facing Eirene Ragusa. If Depiro had any pre-game nerves it surely did not show as they ran out easy winners 57-25. Depiro then went head-to-head with another regional team, Pegasus Ragusa.

Once again, the girls won comfortably to book their place in the final against Eirene Ragusa.

The final saw Depiro going in for the break 32-26 in front. Depiro's defence tightened up in the second half and made all the difference as they won 59-38.
