A Libyan man was yesterday given a one-year jail term suspended for three years for forging a passport and being in Malta illegally.

Omar El-Qmati, 28, pleaded guilty to forging stamps on his passport and making use of it. He also admitted being in Malta without leave from the immigration authorities. He is to be deported.

Police Inspector Sandro Zarb prosecuted.

Dr Leo Bencini appeared for the man.
