Details published on obtaining voting documents

The police will begin delivering voting documents

Police officers shall begin delivering voting documents on Monday morning, the Electoral Commission announced on Sunday.

Voting documents will be delivered at voters' registered addresses by the police daily from Monday, 4 May, until Friday, 15 May; between 8am and 1pm, and 3pm and 9pm.

When the police arrive at the place of residence, there must be a responsible person who is at least 16 years old, and a relative and/or someone who resides or works there to receive the voting document, the commission said.

Persons receiving the voting document will be asked to confirm receipt of the document by signing on a mobile device provided by the Police Officer, the commission added.

The police officer could also be accompanied by a political party representative who must have an authorised tag issued by the electoral commission.

The voting document should be kept in a safe place, as nobody will be allowed to vote without it on polling day, the commission said.

In the lead-up to the elections, the electoral register was also recently updated, the commission said, and asked voters to check whether all the information listed is correct.

Voters may appeal to a Revising Officer by 22 May to correct details, add missing names, or challenge entries in the register.

However, from 16 May onwards, hearings must be postponed indefinitely (sine die), so applicants are advised to submit appeals before this date.

The commission also notified political parties and independent candidates that it may submit lists and application forms of persons they wish to nominate to serve as assistant electoral commissioners, counting staff, and party agents by no later than 7pm on 9 May.
