Developers welcome 7% increase in promises of sale in 2025
MDA says total value of promises of sale rose from €5.11 billion to almost €6 billion
Developers on Wednesday welcomed an increase of seven per cent in promises of sale in 2025, when compared to 2024.
In a statement, the Malta Development Association said the "strong and encouraging performance" confirmed that the local property market had remained resilient.
The MDA compared the total number of promises of sale in 2024 with that of 2025, noting an increase from 15,266 to 16,636. The MDA said this represented a growth of 7 per cent.
Over the same period, the total value of promises of sale rose from €5.11 billion to almost €6 billion, an increase of €851 million or 17 per cent.
MDA did not provide information about the methodology used for its study.
A spokesperson said the association compiles information from different estate agents and developers and includes commercial and residential new promises of sales that have been signed. Extensions of promises of sale are not included.
The association said in its statement that the level of activity it had recorded clearly showed that local families continued to view property as their preferred investment.
"Nearly €6 billion in promises of sale underlines continued confidence in property as a long-term store of value, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining a market that is fair, balanced, and accessible to all participants".
MDA's president Michael Stivala, meanwhile, said the figures confirmed that the property sector continues to play a central role in the Maltese economy.
He said the association will keep pushing for reforms that strengthen long term industry sustainability, support responsible urban development, protect the green environment, reduce unnecessary red tape, and ensure a fair system for buyers, sellers, and investors.
