How diet can help slow the signs of skin ageing

We begin losing the vital components of our skin, which are collagen, the “scaffolding” maintaining skin firmness; hyaluronic acid, the “sponge” preserving moisture in the skin; and elastic fibres containing elastin, the “spring” that allows our skin to bounce back into shape.

Additionally, with age, the turnover rate of our skin, the creation of new skin cells to replace the old ones, declines from 28 days in young skin to 45-60 days in mature skin. Also, during menopause, estrogen levels drop markedly to the detriment of the skin’s capacity to hold water, remain plump and robust.
