The government, Enemalta and the Public Transport Authority are preparing to dim street lighting by around 30 per cent between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. in a bid to reduce CO2 emissions.

Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt told Mr Ċensu Galea (PN) there was no intention of switching off lighting in residential zones but it would be ensured that the level of street lighting will remain adequate to avert danger. Answering a supplementary question, Dr Gatt said this was being done solely to reduce CO2 emissions. Dimming all of Gozo alone would save between €150,000 and €200,000 a year.
