Din l-Art Ħelwa launches 19th edition of annual Architectural Heritage Awards
The awards recognise contributions to architecture and heritage conservation
Heritage NGO Din l-Art Ħelwa has launched the 14th edition of its annual Architectural Heritage Awards.
In a statement Tuesday, the organisation said it was “delighted” to launch the awards “recognising outstanding contributions to Malta’s architectural landscape and heritage conservation”.
The awards are supported by the Chamber of Architects and Civil Engineers, the Kamra tal-Periti, and features three categories: regeneration of an area, the adaption of historical buildings for new uses and the restoration or conservation of a building.
Projects considered by the awards cover those relating to single buildings, a complex of buildings or a historic urban environment or townscape.
Also featured is the ‘Judge Maurice Caruana Curran Award’, named after the organisation’s founder, awarded to the best overall winner across all categories.
Projects are judged on their historic, cultural, educational and social relevance, considering the preliminary research conducted, the aesthetic and visual merit of the project and its environmental impact.
Noting this edition of the awards coincided with Din l-Art Ħelwa’s 60th anniversary, the organisation’s executive president Patrick Calleja said there was “no better way to celebrate this occasion than by recognising and rewarding projects and their architects that are creative and respectful of our cultural heritage and history”.
Qualifying projects should have been completed in the 12 months leading up to the end of last month. Submissions should be made to Din l-Art Ħelwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta by 12pm on Friday 19 September.
