Dingli’s agricultural notoriety took centre stage yesterday at the locality’s biggest showcase of local produce and Maltese traditions.
The annual event, organised by the local council in collaboration with local non-governmental organisations, featured a large replica of a traditional Maltese karettun (cart) full of fruits and vegetables.
The agricultural and traditional festival included a beauty contest for sheep and goats and a show featuring dogs of all shapes and sizes.
The locality is known for its wine, so the annual event would not have been complete without a competition between reds, rosés and whites. Bird enthusiasts were also kept entertained with poultry and pigeon shows.
Throughout the event, there was a variety of traditional folk shows and għana vocal music competitions, as well as guided tours of Buskett Gardens.
A number of stands sold local produce. At an artisanal market, women showed off traditional weaving and lace making using ċombini (spools).
This 15th edition of the festival was a collaboration of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Agriculture, Malta Tourism Authority, Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government, Culture Ministry, Malta Arts Council, Tourism Ministry and Valletta 2018.
