In an appeal to the Maltese throughout the process of the general elections, the Diocesan Synod Assembly yesterday urged them to cherish the values of unity, peace and mutual respect, and for everyone to pray.
During its 25th meeting, held at the Catechumenate in Mosta, the assembly finalised the last document of eight, on the Liturgy and the Sacraments, to be submitted to the Archbishop to act as a pastoral guide for the Church in Malta.
The other documents relate to the Vision of the Church Communion; People with charisma and various ministries; Culture-Society-Church; Marriage and Family; Deaconate/ Justice; Broadcasting the Word; the Laity; and Adolescents and Youths.
The Synod Assembly was opened by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca on June 2, 2001. Its work formally comes to an end at Mdina Cathedral on April 24, the very day, 300 years ago, that the 1703 Diocesan Synod was also concluded.
The celebrations marking the end of the Synod will be held on June 7 with a Pentecost vigil.
The assembly is the second of three phases, that started with consultation and ends with Mgr Mercieca approving the eight documents prepared, followed by their implementation.
